Below, we interview Dr. Escobar and will hear directly from him about SDN plan and results and outstanding success.
SDN: Dr. Escobar, thank you for doing this interview and case study.
Dr. Escobar, can you tell us what makes Solis Dental different from other dental practices? What would you want your patients to know that makes you a different kind of practice?
We've always strived for the best patient experience possible, and I think the type of experience that we're trying to create is one where people feel comfortable coming in, and also, at the end of appointments, that's kind of where we get our stamp of approval that we did well.
Our job is fulfilled when patients say things like, "I've never had this at my old dental office," "I've never seen that before," or "This hasn't ever been explained to me in that way," and so, there are a lot of elements that go into creating a wonderful experience like that.
Coming up with an execution of that caliber and having the patient validated at the end tells me that many patients haven't had these experiences before. There's something different just by looking at what we stand for in Solis Dental and even the name itself, which has a lot of depth and explains why we chose it.
Once they start interacting with us, we try to engage in a way that streamlines their visits. We simplify the digital paperwork and work to keep everything automated and with the least friction for them. We want them to feel comfortable when they come, so our office and waiting room are designed to feel like a home living room with relaxing colors and layout. Our goal is to help with efficiency and to make the patient feel relaxed here and even when you go to the back treatment area.
I’m able to show them everything. So, we've been especially lately just training our team to think about how we can make our patient’s appointments as comfortable and engaging as possible, showing imagery of what their conditions are and being able to take a digital ideal scan, for example, and showing them their teeth so they can see what I’m talking about. There's a crack on your tooth. Let's zoom in on that.
I think part of the experience is embracing technology and being careful that there's always a want to buy the newest thing without vetting it first. Still, some things out there are just game changers for our practice; having a 3D cone beam X-ray has allowed us to diagnose things that traditional imagery didn't give us.
I can throw that image up quickly, allowing for an engaging conversation. I think that's what people with leave here: satisfaction that the conversation with the doctor and the providers feels like we try to strive to listen to them. We heard their chief concern and showed them that this is what's happening and what we recommend, but we want to give you the correct information and empower them with choice. And then, we give them an implant at the end, and we help to get them scheduled, but just thinking about it, if I was a patient, how would I want this presented and then trying to do that?
Anthony Escobar: talked to their friends and things like that. And so seeing that gives our team the validation that we're doing something different here.
SDN: If I were to ask you what dental services you prioritize, would you say General Dentistry? What specialty do you want your patients to know you're great at?
We prioritize Invisalign mainly from an airway standpoint, the longevity of your teeth, how preventative it is, and feelings of crowding. I have so many patients who come in continually breaking things that we recently did usually coming down to the underlying issue, which is their bite. From my years of practice and what I've seen, the one thing that I think affects health and longevity is the most common and is not talked about enough.
It isn't an occlusion; getting the teeth in the right position opens up the breathing space. It's just a huge paradigm shift, and so we do put a big emphasis on that, and on top of that, the long-term effect of sleep, I think is another area that gets underdiagnosed overall.
SDN: How important it is to get the teeth all lined up so people can breathe, I get that. I mean, that's life changing. Most people don't realize that.
It also affects many other things people don't realize; thumb-sucking can change your top and bottom arch, affecting your airway. If you're not breathing, it promotes more mouth breathing, making your head come forward and affect your posture. There are new studies now showing that tongue ties and lip ties can affect mandible morphology. They can even create tension that is connected all the way down to your toes. Still, all of that stems from a lot of it, including the occlusion and airway. I feel like occlusion and airways are among the biggest things we focus on for those reasons.
SDN: Do you use oral appliances, laser, or both?
We typically start with clear aligner therapy, which requires the arch to develop first because there are a lot of dental benefits on top of an airway benefit.
The Airway has other aspects: the nasal passage and the soft palate. And so we focus on the soft palate, where the laser comes in with NightLase where we tighten up the floor of the mouth, the tongue, and the soft palate. If you get improvement there, but if it still need more, we start looking at other things like dental appliances to bring that lower jaw forward.
SDN: What would you want to tell another doctor who needs marketing? What about SDN are you impressed with? What do you like the most with us? What are we doing amazingly for you? What do you want another doctor to know?
The character of Social Dental NOW's team was the first thing I enjoyed with you guys, and starting the relationship created an interaction I have not had with other companies I've gone through.
I mean, we've been practicing two and a half years now, and I've gone through three companies now, and you guys are the fourth, and so I've had my fair share of the dental marketing rodeo, and I studied my marketing in undergrad. I have an MBA.
So, there were a lot of things that I was looking for, and in terms of measuring performance, that was the biggest thing that I felt was lacking, and when you guys first gave your presentation, it was right up front, we have third-party data.
Showing you what we can do and what you guys can do was extremely impressive, as I saw the comparison with our competitors and how much our visibility and Googe rankings have increased because of your content and work. I mean, to be able to show that with the third-party tools was just so compelling for me, and that's what I was looking for, to begin with, and I wish I had found you guys when first opened because your skills and team are what I really wanted.
SDN: We do, too, but we're glad we found each other!
Some things happened as we started working together, and how you guys responded to them was so professional. It made me feel I was working with the best possible team. I felt these are the right kind of people to work with because if things do go wrong, eventually, something will go wrong with everything that anybody does. How you respond to that is very big, and I've also really appreciated you. Apart from marketing, you've had a lot of experience in other Industries, and we've come to you with questions. It's been nice to have somebody who's been there and done that to give us your perspectives in some situations.
For all those reasons and the feeling that you truly have our best interest, and your focus is not spread too thin, I've really enjoyed working with SDN, and for all those reasons, we've loved the relationship we've established with you guys.
More than anything else, I consider myself a business and personal mentor. Would you say my mentorship to you and your brother has been excellent or helpful? What word would you use for that?
I would definitely say excellent and insightful. There are certain things that I haven't considered sometimes. With the things you brought up, getting that fresh view was exactly what we needed in that situation.
SDN: Thank you. I appreciate your compliments. You know our team and I work very hard for you and our clients, and we care about them. We are not doing this for the money. Rather, it's because we want to build the best dental marketing company in the world, and we are grateful you truly appreciate us and our work. We want to help people save lives and build profitable companies through you.
OK. Wonderful.
SDN: I want to help people who are changing lives, saving lives, and making a difference. I want to help you be the best you can be, and to me, the most valuable thing I get out of this is that people appreciate the mentorship and guidance. I want to help you succeed, and your practice succeed. That's my reward. It's not the money. I don't need the money. I want to make a difference.
The people I work with thank you for saying the nice things you did that helped to keep me/us motivated.
We've also appreciated all the time you put in. The things you've presented and things that got done in the time frame that you guys have done. It's been great.
SDN: Thank you. Is there anything else you want other dentists to know about Social Dental NOW (SDN)? Are there any closing comments that you would want dentists to know about why we're good for you and might be good for them?
I think that's all that needs to be said. I mean, you guys have just been phenomenal!
